Forks Over Knives: The Recipes!

While no one disputes that testing all those pie recipes last year was a very good time, it definitely took its toll on my waistline. So after pie testing wrapped up, I jumped at the opportunity to test a new set of recipes for Isa Moskowitz- but in a shocking turn of events, these were to be healthy dessert recipes! It’s no secret that I’m a big fan of sweet treats- the production and consumption alike. And when I’m eating a treat, I want a real treat- no black beans pureed, baked and called brownies for me, thanks. So I was admittedly a little skeptical about these recipes. But I went ahead and tested a bunch of recipes I usually never would have cast an eye over- and I’m glad I did, because I came away with some things that were not only (somewhat) good for me, but that were also delicious and that I’ll make over again for sure.

These recipes of which I speak are now available for all in the recently published Forks Over Knives: The Cookbook! This one is a pretty hefty tome, containing over 300 recipes from a number of authors. But if you’re anything like me, the desserts are the fun part. Here are a few that I sampled during testing!

Vanilla cookies

Walnut brownies

Lunchbox chocolate chip cookies

Raspberry truffle brownies

Gingerbread cookies

Zucchini bread

My recommendations? I didn’t dislike anything I tested, but standouts are the walnut brownies (not too sweet- in a delicious,  ’grown up’-tasting kind of way!), the chocolate chip cookies (these have a great, homestyle quality to them that hits the spot just like a full-fat cookie), and my hands-down favourite- the zucchini bread (this has an awesome secret ingredient and is my new go-to recipe). These alone are worth checking the book out- and let’s consider the other 270 or so recipes in there a bonus!
